Slick Rick is best known for a series of rap recordings during the 1980s, including “Children’s Story”, “La Di Da Di” (B-side of Doug E. Fresh single “The Show” (1985)), and “Hey Young World”. It was in the 1980s that he started his career in the Hip-hop scene, most of his hit songs were recorded in the same decade. Walters is best known for his voice and unique British accent in the Hip-hop genre. His music has been sampled frequently by other artists; many of these songs have gone on to make hits such as “Creep” by R&B band TLC which was sampled from “Hey Young World”. Walter rose to stardom in a Zeitgeist known to Hip-hop fans as ‘Golden age hip hop’. Originally from Mitcham in London, England, Walters moved with his British Jamaican family to The Bronx in 1975 where he met Dana Dane with who he later formed a Hip-hop duo known as the Kangol Crew.[1] Walters received his characteristic eye patch after being blinded in the right eye by broken glass as an infant. Once he gained a degree of wealth, Slick Rick earned a reputation for wearing the eye patch over his right eye, an enormous amount of gold and diamond jewellery, including many large necklaces with large pendants, bracelets
