I also learned how to use a Akai MPC 2500 they are all great tools to use to create beats and i would recommend any of them. My newest setup consist of a iMac, Native Instruments Maschine, and a Korg Triton Pro 61 Keyboard. I don’t use any of the sounds in the Korg Triton Pro anymore because they are kinda out dated so i use it as a midi controller for my VSTi plugins. My favorite plugins to use would be the Nexus, Sylenth1 and Gladiator i use those three the most they have great sounds and i would recommend them to anyone who are looking for great cutting edge sounds they keep me inspired to keep

Two pal of mine, both about 10 years younger than me, Allen and Ronnie always enjoyed to argue about rap music with me. Especially when it was about hip hop beats.

They knew I had been making beats for several years and they were contemplating to also enter music production so they make a little bit of money selling their beats.

Only they had different ways on how to go about getting a beat maker studio started.

Ronnie’s big beat studio aspiration

Ronnie was more inclined to spend lots of money to get his hands on the most popular beat making equipment. So he started to slowly to get his home studio assembled. You see, Ronnie was always thrilled when flipping at the pages of those glossy electronic music equipment magazines.

He always had stories about what beat making hardware equipment this or that famous hip hop producers used to do this or that hit beat. He thought that sophisticated and expensive rap beat maker equipment guaranteed great beats.

Allen, the modest beatmaker

Allen’s dream to make beats was no less than his friendBut he wasn’t ready to spend every dime for it. Allen simply sign up to an online beat creator. He only paid a onetime access fee that was less expensive than his bus pass.

Allen beat making skills skyrocketed very fast. He was able to create beats online using good quality sounds, mix them, and save lots of them in his computer.

He created dozens of great beats. He uploaded his music on his MySpace page and his blog. He ended up selling most of them to rappers who were desperately looking for freshbeats. Some of them were to work with a rap producer and were happy to have discovered Allen.

He even quickly started to experiment reggaeton and dance music production. This gladly made him become the main guy also for many wanna be female artists.

All the while, Ronnie was still struggling to get the first piece of his studio together, a drum machine that later cost him over two dollars.

How Ronnie and Allen ended up

Both Ronnie and Allen ended up being good bet makers. But the early learning of the beat making process and the early experience gained from working with singers made Allen a complete producer much much faster.

What they both learned from the earlier disagreement was that with today’s online tools, expensive music equipment is not automatically synonymous with success or making the best music.

Pricey studio equipment may still be out of reach for most aspiring hip hop producers, but not those {online beat creator sites where you can quickly learn to make great beats.

If you are inclining to music, you probably want to try rap beats. However, do you knowhow to make rap beats the easy way? It is so great to create your own beats and make it work. This is such a good way to let out your creative side. Having the right beat is the key to s successful rap song. The beat, not just in rap, elevates the song to higher level and for rap songs; it makes them stand out especially in the crowd.

You must take note of the two most significant elements in a rap beat; depth and originality. Depth is like the bridge that acts as a communication between the song and the listener. Rap songs have messages and the duty of the beat is to convey them. Originality comes in if that beat makes the song stand out in front of a big crowd. Originality also means that when a beat is first played, the listener will automatically know what the title of the rap song is.

Loops are the one making up a rap beat and they are set of bars that repeat over and over. To make loop, you have to start with hi hats followed by adding kicks and snares.

Begin with your hi hats. The hi hats sets the basics for your rap beat and let you decide the speed of your beat. There is nothing complex with you hi hats so make it simple. You can add more hi hats later if needed. By doing this, you are configuring the speed and baseline resulting to the framework of your rap beat. Add to them the instrumentals and vocals. The creative combinations of all elements are the one responsible for building the feeling and originality of the rap beat. In addition to them, keep things simple as possible; overdoing things will do no good.

Finally, everything is easy and possible if you create it using a software and the best software to do them is the Sonic Producer. Try it.

Rapping Beats

Marketing of your music product (mixed and mastered vocals on Rapping Beats or R&B Instrumentals) is probably the most important part of the music BUSINESS. In this Rap Beats and Instrumentals support article I’ll give you an intro in the MASSIVE world of Music Marketing. This article is part of a series on how to become a successful Rapper or Singer. You can view all the articles in this series on the author’s page.

You can have the craziest lyrics and the hottest rapping beats and R&B instrumentals in the world, but if no one knows about you and your music, it makes NO difference. You can even have distribution with the biggest distributors in the world. But without proper marketing it won’t mean anything. If you don’t promote your music heavily, you’ll get lost in the ocean of rappers and singers that are online and in stores. I’ll give you an intro here, but the topic is way to huge to discuss in one article.

Q: Once my song is ready, where and how can I promote it and get it heard?

A: Like I said earlier this is a big subject which can’t be explained in a couple of paragraphs. But once you have a fully mixed and mastered song with solid lyrics on a really HOT rapping beat or R&B instrumental, you’re ready to get it out there into the world. (Remember, as important as marketing is, music quality still matters). One thing you definitely want to keep doing is constantly learn all you can about Music Marketing. The key is to get AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE to hear (to actually listen to) your song. Post your music up everywhere online. Give it to all your friends and tell them to make copies and share it with their own friends. Hand CD’s out at clubs and concerts where they play music similar to yours. When you’re first starting out don’t be afraid to give your music away for free. Yes I said FREE. (well… Almost free, the only thing you should ask for in return is the person’s Email Address – more on this later.) People won’t pay to listen to a song from an unknown artist they might not like. They have to trust and like you before they buy from you. Trust me, giving away your music to gain a true fan will PAY OFF in the end.

The next thing to do is get your music on the internet and let the world hear. Upload your music to any music related website you know of. POST IT EVERYWHERE YOU CAN! Some good ones to focus on are iLike, ReverbNation, MySpace (yes MySpace still matters), Last.fm, Jango and BandCamp but the list goes on and on. After that get on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter and socialize with different people – tell them about your music! It’s important NOT to be annoying and spam people with ads of your music. That is one SURE way to get potential fans to HATE you. (Do you ever click on those kinds of posts? Didn’t think so…) You have to start or join in conversations and build personal relationships with people. That’s the key to social networking – It’s hard work, but it WILL pay off.

Another thing you don’t want to forget about is having your OWN website – it looks professional and will give you credibility as an independent artist. Having a MySpace of Facebook Page is great but you need a HOME – your personal website will be your own store-front where you can gather fans. A good solution for this is BandZoogle. You can easily design a professional looking website with them and get your own domain (something like www.YourArtistOrBandName.com). BandZoogle also has a great Mailing List application that will let you collect all your fans email addresses so you can keep in touch with them. This is VERY important. When you give your music away to fans, make sure to get an email address in return and keep them updated on all your new releases. It’s much easier to keep old fans (customers) than it is to get new ones! Well this is the longest article in the series so I’ll leave it at that for now! Keep learning about Music Marketing – It’s Important! Hope this helped.

Have you always had the dreams and aspirations of becoming the next big star producer in the hip hop game? Ever thought of making a living off of making your own rap beats? If you still are in search of reaching that goal, it’s something that can be done, but not without a little hard work and dedication. Even then, it may not be easy to become a star studded producer. At least that’s what they tell you.

What if you could prove them wrong? What if you could make your own rap beats and be the next Dr. Dre, Timbaland or Scott Storch? And what if I told you could do all of that and much more? It’s true – You can be the next big hip hop producer, but there are a few things you need to be aware of before you even think about moving forward.

Dedicate Yourself to Learning

You’re most likely a beginner who is looking to make their own rap beats, so you need to dedicate yourself to learning everything you can (if you want to be a star). Learn what it takes to be a big time producer so you can get into that mindset and work ethic. Establish this mindset right away, and you’re already ten steps ahead of everyone else.

Stay Consistent

How do you think some of the hottest hip hop producers have made it to where they are now? It’s from being consistent in everything they do. They are constantly always looking to improve and work hard to separate themselves from everyone else. Hard work gets results, and you should put your best foot forward.

Find the Right Equipment

Since you’re relatively new to beat making, you should consider picking up some inexpensive music production software. You don’t need hundreds of dollars worth of fancy, high end equipment that you don’t know how to use. This will do nothing more than collect dust. Plus, all the time you spend trying to figure out how to work that equipment could be used to hone your skills. Start small and think big. It’s not what you use, but how you use it.</div>

Rapping beats – Mixing and Mastering your songs – Is It Necessary?

This Rapping Beats article is part of a series on becoming a successful independent Urban Music Artist (Rapper, Singer, etc.) You can view all the articles in this series on the author’s page.

Once you’ve got your hit rap beats chosen and your vocals recorded comes the most crucial step in the music making game – Mixing and Mastering. Recording your vocals on Rap Beats and Instrumentals is an important step as well but is that all there is to making professional music? What’s the real secret behind how professional music sounds? Most independent rappers and singers take this for granted and end up sounding like amateurs. Don’t get caught slippin!

Q: Do I HAVE to get my song Mixed and Mastered or is it ok to just record vocals on top of a beat?

A: The short answer is YES YOU DO! But it does depend on what you want to do with your song. If you are recording a song on rapping beats or R&B beats that you want to share with friends and family and do nothing else with, then you may not need to get it mixed and mastered. But if you plan on really promoting this song (especially on the radio) or selling it then you definitely HAVE TO get the vocals and rap beats mixed and mastered. It doesn’t matter if you have the best microphone in the world and rapping beats or soundclick beats from the best beatmakers alive – you HAVE TO BE MIXED AND MASTERED. There’s no getting around it. And don’t just go to ANYONE to get this done – make sure they’re work sounds good! Your song is your message to the world – you want it to sound as good as possible. You only get one chance at a first impression so make it count. There are lots of online and local solutions for you. Google Precursor Productions – they do GREAT mixing and mastering and it’s not too expensive.

So what exactly is mixing and mastering rapping beats and vocals? Mixing is the process of balancing all the different sounds in your rapping beats or r&b beats (including your vocals) so you can hear everything properly and its not too hard or distorted. It’s what happens after all the vocals have been recorded and tracked. Mixing is where all the special effects (reverbs, echos, EQ, compression) happen. Mastering is the final process in producing a song. It’s the last chance to catch anything that sounds off or wrong. It’s also when everything gets processed so everything gels together and sounds polished and professional. If you’re serious about your music career and want people to think you are too – GET MIXED AND MASTERED PROPERLY. It’s worth it and will save you the embarrassment of sounding like an amateur.

Rapping Beats
Exclusives Vs. Leases

When you’re buying rap beats and instrumentals when should you go for an exclusive license and when should you go for a lease beat? Are lease beats even worth investing in as a serious hip hop or r&b artist? Read the rest of the article below to learn how to make the right buying decision to make the most of your money!

My name is DatPaki (aka Lyrical Militant) from PBE Music – I’m a producer/MC/Songwriter from Winnipeg, Canada. This article is part of a series called “Urban Music Business Tips” which is all about how to work at being a successful independent Urban Music Artist. I hope that I can help out some of the new up-and-coming rappers and singers start their urban music career off right. If you follow the tips in this series, you’ll be a BIG step ahead of your competition! Most music artists never think about this kind of stuff! You can get the whole series at my website.

Q: When buying a rap beat or instrumental should I buy an Exclusive License or go for the Lease Beat?

A: It all depends on what you plan on doing with the song you are going to make. An exclusive license gives ONLY YOU the right to produce and release a song with that instrumental. With an exclusive, no one else can make a song and release it for sale using the instrumental – your producer can’t resell it to another rapper or singer. These licenses can get expensive. On the other hand, a lease beat is kind of like a beat rental – You have the right (sometimes with conditions) to release a song on the beat but you might not be the only one. The producer can keep selling that same beat over and over to other artists.

If you’re putting out a mixtape or a short EP or pretty much anything you’re going to use mostly for promotion then a lease beat might be best. They are cheap (-), half-decent and chances are you won’t find another artist who uses the same beat and has the same fans as you. (Even if you do, it’s for a mixtape – so it’s not a big deal. Different people use the same beats all the time). But if you’re putting out a commercial album or single you plan on selling in stores, touring off of and promoting to radio and other media outlets you’re going to definitely want an exclusive license. That way no one else will hear or have access to the beat before you release your song. And when it is released to the public and someone else uses it for a freestyle or mixtape, it will be known as YOUR BEAT – you own the exclusive license. This can also be great for your own promotion. You are the only person that can sell a song on that beat and the instrumental will be known in the public as YOURS (even if another rapper/singer takes it and jumps on it after).

There are many advantages and disadvantages to both types of licenses. You have to think and make a decision about what the purpose of your song is in the marketplace and make your purchase based on that. Take the time to plan out your release, and it will pay off. Remember, this is your career – take it seriously!
